Frequently asked questions

Most of our customers report they enjoy Hillbilly Coffee Roasters coffee so much they see an increase in consumption especially from others in the household. Our sourcing, roasting and blending expertise delivers tastes and aromas that are pretty hard to beat and are very tempting to those who have not had the pleasure of REAL coffee roasted in an Authentic Italian style before.

Having said all that consumption varies from one person to the next. Please use the following as rough guide only:
  • Approximately 14 cups per week = 250g
  • Approximately 24 cups per week = 500g
  • Approximately 50 cups per week = 1 kg

For those who love the mathematical stuff and can see themselves ordering coffee on a monthly basis use the following formula:

Number of coffee lovers in your household (A) X Number of coffees enjoyed per day (B) X 30.4 which is the average number of days in a month (C) = number of cups per month (D)

For example:

Step One: Two person household who average 2 coffees a day each

  • A: Two coffee lovers = 2
  • B: Enjoy 2 coffees per day = 2
  • C: 30.4 is the average number of days in a month

Step Two: A * B * C = 121.60 = total number of cups per month

Step Three: Compare this to the table above and 2-2.5kg should be sufficient

Properly stored Hillbilly Coffee Roasters coffee beans will maintain their supreme taste and quality for at least 6 weeks from their roasting date.

Pre-ground coffee is best used within 10 days. We recommend Hillbilly Coffee Roasters coffee to be consumed within 10 - 42 days.

Hillbilly Coffee Roasters was named with the intent to express our common folk approach to coffee. We don't want to be a part of the highly pretentious snobs out there. There are already plenty to go around. That's not to say we aren't coffee snobs because we are but the snobbery ends there. Hillbillies are anything but pretentious and have strong community and family connections. Hillbillies of old had developed their own style of music such as Rockabilly to enjoy while drinking some home brew moonshine. Hillbillies were a mountain people who lived by a code.. albeit lawless at times but as we know, laws are sometimes meant to benefit the pretentious. If the Hillbillies weren't working so hard on making their cars fast enough to outrun the law, you most likely wouldn't have had the beginning of dirt track racing or NASCAR. They were innovators providing for their people anyway they could and having a damn good time doing it.

We have customers all over Australia and overseas. Our roastery and laboratory are located in the beautiful semi-rural setting of Tyabb in Southern Victoria on the edge of the majestic Western Port Bay. Being located between the two very large water masses of Western Port and Port Phillip Bays guarantees a milder climate with some of the freshest air quality in the World. We believe this creates the ideal environment in which to store our green beans and finished product.

We do have a ‘white label’ service. Please use our contact form to get in touch and we can discuss your requirements with you.

Absolutely, we love working with like-minded wholesale partners and offer a wide range of products and services exclusive to our wholesalers. Fill in our contact form and one of our sales team will be in contact.

To be 100% honest it’s not a question we ever get. However in the extreme case where something has gone wrong and you’re not happy, please get in touch.

Yep we sure do. Please note transit times and customs procedures apply to coffee beans in the same way they do to other products crossing borders.

Some may think it’s a cliché thing to say but we really do CARE about our coffee beans, our roasting, our storage and the delivery to YOU.

Keep your Hillbilly Coffee Roasters beans in a dark and cool location. To preserve your beans' fresh roasted flavor as long as possible, store them in an opaque, air-tight container at room temperature.

Please avoid clear canisters which will allow light which can compromise the taste of your coffee.

Related to this is to only BUY what YOU can consume in a 3-4 week period. Check out our ‘Subscription’ service which delivers beautiful, freshly roasted and exclusive coffee bean choices to your door every month, guaranteeing the freshest choices for you and your household.

The best way to grind Hillbilly Coffee Roasters coffee beans is to use a burr grinder. It grinds coffee beans evenly, as coarse or as fine as you'd like. The best burr grinders have multiple speeds; the lower speed is best so that no added heat is generated.

If you don't have a grinder, we can pre-grind your coffee for you.

There are a multitude ‘best practices’ out there but the main thing is to have the following 3 elements in place first:

  • One:  The right coffee. If you’re reading this then you have totally NAILED that, well done :-)
  • Two:  The right water
  • Three:  Your undivided attention

Everyone will have their own preferences and to each method is it's own recipe and grind.

  • Espresso
  • Stove Top
  • Plunger
  • Filter,
  • Aeropress
  • Turkish
  • Drip
  • Percolator

This is easily answered with a very PROUD, YES.  Our coffee beans are ethically sourced from right across the World, including Central and South America, Africa, and Asia.

We source from accredited Australian importers. Folks, this is something we take very seriously. Please see our ‘Code of Conduct’ which we adhere to in everything we do at Hillbilly Coffee Roasters and the expectations we have on our suppliers.

Yep we most certainly do and we encourage you to do the same. Please check out our ‘Coffee Grounds Recycling’ page for more information on what you can do to help with the environment.

Our Hillbilly Coffee Roasters Subscription package playfully named the ‘Curiosity Box’ is for the serious Coffee Aficionado. We are constantly working in our lab to bring you the very best choice in roasted coffee beans. In many cases our ‘Subscribers’ are the first to try our latest creations.
